What are Data Centers?

The simple answer is that a data center is a facility designed to house computer equipment and the components associated with running that equipment. Also known as server farms or collocation centers, they usually offer access to network providers as well as telecommunications companies. This allows the center’s clients to outsource their server and connection needs rather than being forced to build and maintain an on-site computer center.

An important function of a data center is maintaining a telecommunications network. This helps ensure that clients have uninterrupted connections to the internet both for their employees and for their customers that access websites, software, and other company data. Maintaining a steady power supply is also vital. This is why most data centers have redundant systems for both power and telecommunications as well as multiple checks and warnings to anticipate problems before they happen.

Security is another vital function of a data center. Companies are entrusting them with not only sensitive customer information, but also with proprietary information and processes. Losing data from a server farm can be crippling for any business. This requires data centers to have not only stellar security systems in place, but also protection from fire, earthquakes, or other disasters.

Companies seeking the services of Las Vegas, New York, or Seattle Data Centers should make sure that the center has all of these systems before looking into specific features and contract elements.

Jumping on the Solar Bandwagon

In the green economy, many jobs are coming as a result of an increase in solar generation of power. This increase is most noticeable in California where a combination of qualified California solar installers and an aggressive rebate program is making it much easier and cost-effective for residents to make the switch from traditional electricity.

You don’t have to live in California to benefit from jumping on the solar bandwagon. Check with your utility company to see if there are similar incentive programs in your area. Even if there aren’t, there will still be considerable financial benefits to switching to solar. Depending on where you live, i.e., how much sunshine you get, you may be able to generate enough power from solar energy to stop using traditional sources of electricity entirely. Some utilities will even buy any extra energy you generate and don’t use, thereby paying you for energy instead of you paying them.

Aside from the financial benefit of never having to pay another electricity bill, there is the good feeling that comes from contributing to the green economy. Not to mention helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reducing the amount of pollution generated by traditional power.

Is This Car Right for You?

Anyone who has faced the prospect of buying a new car — a truly new car, not a “new to you” car — knows that the process can be overwhelming. Even before you start worrying about things like warranties, service agreements, and entertainment systems, you have to figure out what model of car best suits your needs. Car companies don’t make it any easier, offering new and different models every year so that a 2011 honda fit may be completely different than the 2010 model.

Start by identifying the basic type of vehicle you need. These generally fall into simple categories like SUV, truck, sports car, family sedan, economy car. This is where you consider the main use of the car and how many passengers and how much cargo you’ll be transporting on a regular basis.

Next, narrow down the features that matter most to you. For some this will be gas mileage or environmental impact , for others it will be off-road capabilities or high safety ratings. This will help you start to narrow down specific makes and models that match those needs.

Then it’s just a matter of winnowing down the models based on your own needs and preferences. Automatic or manual transmission ? How many airbags? Conversion seats? Regular four-door model or a hatchback?

Once you have your list of requirements you can either continue searching for specific vehicles in ads or online or you can head out to a car dealer and see what they can do to match your list. The right car is going to be the one that meets all or most of your listed items, fits your budget and financing needs, and feels “right” when you look at it and drive it.

Environmently Safe Everything

Going green isn’t limited to cars and jobs anymore. More and more industries have jumped on the environmental bandwagon in the last decade, and still more are joining every day. Electric cars may make the news, but consumers can find eco-friendly products for every facet of life, from baby earth products to environmentally-friendly funerals.

One of the appeals of environmentally safe products is that if it’s safer for the environment, it’s probably safer for humans too. This is the driving force behind non-toxic paints and stains as well as natural materials being used for furnishings, window treatments, and even children’s toys. Parents are especially grateful for the increasing availability of eco-friendly household cleaners and chemicals. Home repair materials are also becoming more environmentally friendly by using non-toxic and natural elements.

Another attraction in protecting the environment is cost savings. With the economy still floundering, many people are looking to save money or willing to invest upfront in home improvements that will save money over time. This includes using energy-saving lights and appliances as well as learning to reuse and repurpose items rather than buying new. Hence the growing popularity of thrift stores, yard sales, and home refurbishing projects.
