If you are suffering from an alcohol or drug problem and have decided to get help, that’s a huge step. Huge. Admitting that you have a problem and that you can’t continue living in the grip of an addiction is a tough thing to do. And once you make that decision, have that turning point, you then have to decide where to go to get help. There are some amazing an addiction recovery programs available. The key is finding one that is a good fit for you.
The right therapy for you
Not all recovery programs work the same. There are many different theories on how to help someone get clean. There are also different approaches to therapy. When looking into a recovery program, find out how the therapy will work. If it’s something that you are pretty sure that you can’t get behind, then your chances of success are slim. While all therapy and counselling will have an element of the uncomfortable (especially at first) there will be some methods that you will know at the onset won’t work for you.
The right doctors and staff
Find out as much as you can about the doctors and staff of any treatment center that you are considering. While most personality clashes can be worked through, and trust built up during the course of treatment, you want to make sure that the people working at the center are qualified to help you.
Help after treatment
Find out about help and support that you will receive once you’ve completed the program and are back out in the real world. It can be a huge shock to go back to your life after you’ve been through a rehab program, so you want to make sure that there are steps in place and people available to help you make the transition.
